Nursing credentialing ensures that nurses maintain the competencies, legal authorization, and professional qualifications required to deliver safe, high-quality care. Although digital technologies have increasingly supported documentation, competency assessment, clinical supervision, and professional development, existing systems remain fragmented, limiting interoperability across the nursing credentialing lifecycle. To synthesize current evidence on digital technologies supporting nursing credential monitoring, clinical supervision, electronic nursing documentation, electronic logbooks, and competency assessment, and to identify research gaps that inform the development of an integrated electronic nursing credentialing ecosystem. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Frontiers, and JMIR identified English-language, open-access original studies published between 2020 and 2025. Of 2,184 records identified, 15 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in a narrative synthesis because of methodological heterogeneity. The included studies consistently demonstrated that digital technologies improved documentation quality, competency assessment, clinical supervision, workflow efficiency, and professional development. However, cross-study synthesis showed that existing digital solutions primarily support individual functional domains and operate with limited interoperability. None of the reviewed studies described an integrated digital ecosystem that combines nursing credential monitoring, competency assessment, clinical supervision, electronic nursing documentation, electronic logbooks, and professional development within a unified platform. Current evidence supports the growing role of digital technologies in nursing management but highlights an important gap in integrated nursing credentialing. Developing interoperable electronic nursing credentialing ecosystems may strengthen continuous competency management, evidence-based nursing management, and organizational decision-making throughout the nursing credentialing lifecycle.
